Entrance Hymn

The Eternal, Almighty One

Syriac: ehnono noohro shareero

The eternal, almighty One
has in time become a child.
Coming down from his throne of light,
in a manger he now lies.
Praised by those who dwell on high,
he wills to be praised on earth.
Magi and the shepherds come;
bowing down, they worship him,
giving honor to their King.
O exult, town of Bethlehem!
David’s city, sing with joy!
Born in you, from a virgin’s womb,
is creation’s Lord and God.
Shepherds come to visit him
and the Wise Men bring their gifts.
In the cave they worship him,
bowing down before their King.
They leave, singing hymns of praise.
Infant Jesus, the Son of God,
has been wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Though a great and a mighty King,
in a manger he now lies.
God, whom heavens cannot hold
nor the seraphim behold,
is embraced in Mary’s arms
and is fed so lovingly.
Praise our Savior, God and King.

Opening Prayers

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

O Christ the Word, make us worthy to prepare ourselves to celebrate the feast of your miraculous birth, when you reconciled the heights and the depths. Fill our hearts with the faith of those holy ones who awaited your coming throughout all generations. May your love and peace reign in us, that we may glorify you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, forever.

Prayer of Forgiveness (Husoyo)

Proemion

Let us raise glory, honor, and praise to the Ancient of Days, born of the Father before all ages, who, at the appointed time, took flesh from the Virgin Mary. By his birth, he fulfilled the revelation of the Holy Spirit, spoken by the prophets. To the Good One be glory and honor, on this feast, and all the days of our lives, and forever. Amen.

Sedro

Glory to you, O only Son, you are the hope of the nations, awaited by all generations. You are without beginning or end, yet, at the appointed time, you chose to be born as a child. You are the great and mighty One, yet you became man without any change to your divinity. You enriched creation, yet you have become poor, and your mother sang spiritual songs to you as she carried you in her arms.
O Child, Ancient of Days, wrapped in swaddling clothes, the shepherds of Bethlehem and the Magi from the East came to worship you, and the angels gathered to sing to you:Glory to you, O only Son, you are the hope of the nations, awaited by all generations. You are without beginning or end, yet, at the appointed time, you chose to be born as a child. You are the great and mighty One, yet you became man without any change to your divinity. You enriched creation, yet you have become poor, and your mother sang spiritual songs to you as she carried you in her arms.
O Child, Ancient of Days, wrapped in swaddling clothes, the shepherds of Bethlehem and the Magi from the East came to worship you, and the angels gathered to sing to you: “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace.” The Church throughout the world prepares for your birth with joy and gladness.
Now, O Lord, we ask you, with the fragrance of this incense, to let the light of your face shine upon us, as it shined in glory upon the shepherds. Fill our hearts with perfect joy, and give us an understanding of the mystery of your plan of salvation. With all who have prepared to welcome your feast, we praise, glorify, and thank you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, forever. “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace.” The Church throughout the world prepares for your birth with joy and gladness.
Amen.

Hymn (Qolo)

The Angelic Hosts of Fire

Syriac: bsafro salee doneeyel

The angelic hosts of fire
join their praise with those on earth,
for God’s Son is born for us
in Bethlehem’s cave.
Those above cry, “Holy Lord!”
Those below cry, “Blest are you,
O child, wrapped in swaddling clothes,
how humble your home!”
This cave serves as heaven now,
with a new angelic throne
for God who fills heaven
and cannot be contained.
Joseph and pure Mary are
like the wheels of blazing fire;
they hold God and bear him up,
like angels on high.
Come, let us lift up our praise
to the hidden Father’s Son,
the Word, born from Mary’s womb
in God’s chosen time.
Wise Men journeyed from the East;
bowing down, they worshipped him,
the One who took flesh from us,
our Savior and Lord.

Etro

O Lord, who is coming among us, accept our incense and give us your grace. Protect your flock that awaits your coming and prepares for your birth. Have mercy on us and on our departed, that we may be worthy to enter into your kingdom and raise glory and thanks to you, forever. Amen.

Holy and immortal Lord, sanctify our minds and purify our consciences, that we may praise you with purity and listen to your Holy Scriptures. To you be glory forever. Amen.

Psalm of the Readings

Syriac: ramremain

On this day hosts of angels
are amazed in Bethlehem.
They sing praise at the wonder
of the Son of God made man.
Jesus lies in a manger
though he is the Lord of all.
Angels join earth in wonder
at the Son of God made man.
Praise to you, born of Mary,
Hidden One, who came to save.
You took flesh from the Virgin
and redeemed the human race.
