Entrance Hymn

Let the Mount of Olives Ring

Syriac: msheeho natareh l’eedtokh

or msheeho natareh l’eedtokh (Abdallah)

or msheeho natareh l’eedtokh (Abdallah)

Let the Mount of Olives ring with resounding hymns of praise!
The apostles sang with joy when they saw the Lord ascend
on clouds of resplendent light with majesty
into heaven’s heights.
Choirs of faithful, worship him; sing to the triumphant One,
who saved all the world, crushing death in victory.
Our Lord Jesus Christ ascends in majesty.
Sing to him and praise his name.
Far beyond the universe, you ascended to the heights,
and you promised us a place in the kingdom up above.
You said: “I am leaving, but I shall return.
So abide in me."
Send to us your Spirit, Lord; may he strengthen us in faith,
renew us in love and in hope that never fails.
To that place prepared for us, with all the saints,
lift us up in your true light.

Opening Prayers

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and for ever. Amen.

Jesus Christ our Lord, make us worthy to celebrate the feast of your Ascension. We raise our pure hands to you in prayer, our chaste souls to you filled with grace, and our sincere hearts to you with love. We yearn for that place to which you ascended, so that with the hosts of angels we may glorify and thank you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, forever.

Prayer of Forgiveness (Husoyo)

Proemion

Let us raise glory, honor, and praise to the One, who came into the world from the Father. He was hung on the cross, buried in the tomb, and raised from the dead. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. To the Good One be glory and honor, on this feast and all the days of our lives, and forever. Amen.

Sedro

O Christ, by your ascension you ended your stay on earth, completed your plan of salvation and returned to the Father to prepare a place for us, so that we may be where you are. You taught us the way to the place where you were going and told us to follow you.
When Thomas asked you: “We do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?" You answered: “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."
Now, O Christ our Savior, we ask you, with the fragrance of this incense, to walk with us on the way that leads to the Father. Turn our eyes toward him, strengthen our desire to be with him, and guide our steps that we may reach the Father through you and with you. We praise you, your Father, and your Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

Hymn (Qolo)

On the Mount of Olives

Syriac: fsheeto

Alleluia!
On the Mount of Olives Christ blessed his apostles.
“To my Father and to yours, I am ascending,"
he said to them,
“and the Holy Spirit I shall send
to remain with you."
As a cloud of light came down to lift the Savior,
his disciples then proclaimed: “To you be glory!"
Alleluia! Our prayers, Lord, receive.
Alleluia!
With the sound of trumpet blasts the angels praised him.
As the Son ascended up into the heavens,
they all rejoiced.
Gabriel, the messenger, announced
Christ’s descent in flesh.
Then he witnessed to his great ascent in glory.
With the angels he cried out and sang God’s praises.
Alleluia! Our prayers, Lord, receive.
Alleluia!
A new priesthood was bestowed at Christ's ascension.
Laying hands upon the heads of his apostles,
he said to them:
“Go and make disciples of the world;
baptize them in faith:
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one and true God.
I ascend now to the right of God my Father."
Alleluia! Our prayers, Lord, receive.

Etro

Jesus Christ our Lord, accept the fragrance of this incense that we have offered to you on the feast of your Ascension into heaven. Grant that we may prepare ourselves to receive the Holy Spirit, whom you promised to send to us. May we take the places that you have prepared for us in the presence of the Father and meet you in the heavenly kingdom. We praise you, your Father, and your living Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

MsheeHo deqom men beyt mite, etraHam 3alayn.
You are holy, O God. You are holy, O Strong One. You are holy, O Imortal One.
O Christ, risen from the dead, have mercy on us.

Holy and immortal Lord, sanctify our minds and purify our consciences, that we may praise you with purity and listen to your Holy Scriptures. To you be glory forever. Amen.

Psalm of the Readings

Syriac: ramremain

Open wide, gates of heaven,
and rejoice, O ancient doors,
for the King will now enter.
King of glory, Lord of hosts!
Who is this King of glory?
And who is this Lord of hosts?
He is God, strong and mighty.
King of glory, Lord of hosts.
Lord our God, you accepted
what the just had offered you;
now accept, in your mercy,
our pure sacrifice and prayers.

Epistle

A reading from the Letter of Saint Paul to the Ephesians. Your blessing, Father.

Glory to the Lord of Paul and the apostles! May the mercy of God descend upon the reader and the listeners and upon this parish and her children forever. Amen.

Brothers and Sisters:
Therefore, I, too, hearing of your faith in the Lord Jesus and of your love for all the holy ones, do not cease giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation resulting in knowledge of him. May the eyes of (your) hearts be enlightened, that you may know what is the hope that belongs to his call, what are the riches of glory in his inheritance among the holy ones, and what is the surpassing greatness of his power for us who believe, in accord with the exercise of his great might, which he worked in Christ, raising him from the dead and seating him at his right hand in the heavens, far above every principality, authority, power, and dominion, and every name that is named not only in this age but also in the one to come. And he put all things beneath his feet and gave him as head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fullness of the one who fills all things in every way.
(Ephesians 1:15-23)

Praise be to God always!

Gospel

Alleluia! Alleluia!
“God goes up with shouts of joy. The Lord goes up with trumpet blast."
(Psalm 47:6)
Alleluia!

Before the proclamation of the Gospel of our Savior, announcing life for our souls, we offer this incense and ask for your mercy, O Lord.

Peace be with you.

And with your spirit.

From the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint John, who proclaimed life to the world.
Let us listen to the proclalation of life and salvation for our souls.

Remain silent, O listeners, for the Holy Gospel is about to be proclaimed to you.
Listen and give glory and thanks to the Word of the living God.

The Apostle wrote:
When he had left, Jesus said, "Now is the Son of Man glorified, and God is glorified in him. (If God is glorified in him,) God will also glorify him in himself, and he will glorify him at once. My children, I will be with you only a little while longer. You will look for me, and as I told the Jews, 'Where I go you cannot come,' so now I say it to you. I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."
(John 13:31-35)

This is the truth! Peace be with you!

Praise and blessings to Jesus Christ, our Lord and God, for giving us his words of life.
